Im currently awaiting delivery of my excellence lux 2 litre diesel auto. On ordering it I specified the 'tow bar pre installation' (without the hook).
Today, I rang a towbar installer local to me for a quote to fit a fold away towbar, I told them it was a new build and I'd specified the pre installation bit. The guy I spoke with was clear enugh in telling me they couldn't install a foldaway for me as not being a Seat dealer would void my warranty. Any idea if this is correct?
Thanks,
Pete

Sure that it is correct, the fold away is factory fit only. The pre installation is wiring only and will make it easier, and hopefully cheaper, when you have your installation done.
The best that you can get is a detachable of which there are several options. I had mine fitted by Hedleys of Durham who were very efficient.

I would be tempted to ask the dealership to fit it for you, then that fitment will be covered by warranty and you know it will have been fitted properly. My Tarraco did not have the towball/electrics fitted when I bought it, but the dealership was able to source and fit the parts for me before I picked it up.

Obviously I don't know about your particular dealer but I do know that many main dealers, of various manufacturers, do not fit aftermarket tow bars themselves but frequently sub contract out to specialist tow bar companies to do the job for them.
I take your point about warranty though I would have every confidence that people who fit tow bars every day would be able to fit them properly...probably more so than a dealer who fits one once every now and then.

My dealership didnt hesitate in fitting the tow bar (its standard VW parts). The bonus for me was the fact that the technician who fitted it talked me through how it worked, including the disconnect alarm system if someone tries to have my caravan away when its hooked up. He was a caravanner as well.

Just had a PF Jones bar installed (fixed swan 7pin) and the dedicated wiring option came with both sets of wires; those to plug into the prepped sockets as well as the full wiring with no prep. So, no price difference for my car without the preparation. Installer said some cars with preparation have plugs ready at the back but not connected to the fuse box at the front, so they'd still need to get into the front but still quicker than feeding wiring from back to front of car. Turns out my car without the prep had at right wires available at the back for 7 pin (not 13). All set up and synchronised to parking sensors & camera.
One great benefit was that the installer told me where he put the "brain" for the tow bar wiring, in case of any future need. It's a small computer box thingy and I now know it's in the panel near the boot light ;) . Can recommend Dan in SE for PF Jones instals.

Previously posted this....this is what mine cost.

An update on this.
I had a Brink detachable bar fitted to my Xcellence Lux yesterday. Had the job done at Hedleys in Durham who had fitted a detachable bar to my previous Leon ST.
I went for dedicated electrics rather than a bypass setup.
Excellent job, only took about 2 hours during which time we took the bus down into the city, had a walk around and a spot of lunch. Got a phone call when the car was ready to be collected.
Total cost...detachable bar, dedicated electrics, £561 all in.

That's fine if you are doing a factory order though many people buy pre built or even second hand. Factory fit is not possible then.
I would have taken Factory if I could. As Conal says, mine was a cancelled order bargain and dealer wouldn't do it for me. Cost £513, I'm happy.
